Citadel, Oil and Gold Leaf on Wood Panel, 80cm x 80cm

This is not a perfect, but nevertheless a reasonable reproduction of my new painting, entitled Citadel, painted in oil upon gold leaf, on a rather weighty wood panel base.  I felt like a Greek Orthodox icon painter! I find the forms and symbolism of ancient walled cities fascinating. This is not a depiction of any one city – rather a fantastical piece, decorative in style, describing a generic mythical walled city.
