“Art in Judaism always has a spiritual purpose: to make us aware of the universe as a work of art, testifying to the supreme Artist, God Himself.”
Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, in The Beauty of Holiness or the Holiness of Beauty (Vayakhel, Covenant & Conversation)
A Maker of Bible Art in Israel
Living in the land of the Bible, while having its own many and drastic challenges, is also rich with cultural and historical inspiration. Israel is a vibrant and diverse society. It is deeply rooted in its ancient history and religious traditions. Here I find myself immersed in a landscape that resonates with the stories and symbols of Jewish faith and history. From the vibrant streets of Tel Aviv, through the Biblical hills of the Galilee, to the ancient alleyways of Jerusalem’s Old City, I am constantly encountering sights, sounds, and experiences that give fuel to my artistic work.
At the same time, this country can be a very complex and drastically challenging place. There are the many ongoing political tensions, social divisions, and deeply disturbing security concerns. I generally make a conscious choice not to address these issues in my work. I know they would add a depth and complexity to my art, but it would be accompanied by a huge degree of darkness and pain. Without denying the gritty realities, I make my art as a way of rising above all this. I believe that a positive, optimistic and joyous approach is a healthier and more robust way to live and work.
You can buy any picture in my Bible art series as a canvas print on my Biblical Art Prints page.
